How Mistral Chat works

Set your format rules once, hand over an idea or a reference image, and pipe the neutral, obedient answer into whatever node comes next.

Mistral Chat node settings: mistral-medium-3-5, a system prompt holding three wine-list voice samples, and the wine notes it wrote

Pick a tier and set the rules

Choose a model tier for the job, then drop your output format and voice samples into the system prompt.

Hand over the idea or image

Type a rough idea, or attach a reference image and ask for specific facets like palette, framing or readable text.

Pipe the result downstream

Send the clean output straight into an image, video or audio node, or rerun with a new seed to explore alternatives.

What Mistral Chat is good at

Obedient structure, literal image reading, European-language fluency and a knack for absorbing the rhythm of your examples, across a ladder of tiers from quick drafts to dense briefs.

Format-locked prompt expansion

Ask for tags in a fixed order (subject, traits, pose, clothing, framing, lighting, background, style) and get output an image node can use unchanged. Small tiers handle this high-volume work cheaply.

Literal image reading

Attach a poster or reference and get an inventory of composition, focal hierarchy, palette and typography, with readable text transcribed exactly. Larger tiers carry the finer visual detail.

Multilingual campaign copy

Strong with European languages, it drafts taglines in distinct tones and localizes them without moralizing or filler. Pick a small tier for rapid batches of variations.

Olive and cream wine-list page: “Older than the cellar. Sweeter than the lie.” set large above voice samples and four wine notes

Voice from your samples

Paste two or three short paragraphs and it mirrors their rhythm, so the voice comes from your examples instead of its defaults. Step up to a larger tier for longer, more nuanced scripts.

Mistral Chat questions

Put the format and tone rules in the System Prompt, with one example of the output you want. Turn on Last Message Only so each item starts fresh instead of picking up earlier answers, and keep Temperature low for captions and tags. A fixed Seed makes reruns more repeatable, though identical wording isn't guaranteed.

Yes. The default, Mistral Small 4 (mistral-small-2603), has a 256k-token context window, enough for a long script or brand guide plus your instructions. Paste it into the prompt or connect it as a text attachment, and name the parts it should follow, such as tone rules or character names.

Use the Ministral tiers (14B, 8B, 3B) for batch captions, tag expansion and simple rewrites, and mistral-large-2512 or mistral-medium-3-5 for dense briefs, long documents and nuanced rewriting. The default, mistral-small-2603, is the balanced everyday pick with image input. Avoid the 3B tier for multi-constraint creative briefs.

No. Only text and image inputs are supported here, so attach images, not video or audio. It also doesn't generate pixels, sound or layouts. It writes the text that guides the nodes that do.

It is best at turning rough ideas into tag-style image prompts, describing reference images, and drafting multilingual copy and short scripts. It struggles with lush, lyrical prose when you give it no example text, and smaller tiers miss fine visual detail and small text in images.

The models come from Mistral AI. The tiers listed here were released between December 2, 2025 and April 29, 2026.
