Seedance

byByteDance (Seed team)

Multi-shot cinematic clips with real camera direction, built from a prompt, a keyframe, an end frame or four references

How Seedance works

Describe the beats, anchor the frames, and pick a tier. Seedance picks the right path for text, one image, an end frame or reference images, so you spend your time on direction instead of setup.

Seedance workflow input

Frame the start and end

Write your shot beats, or drop in a first frame, an end frame, or up to four reference images to anchor the scene.

Seedance workflow direction

Direct motion and optics

Pick a tier, set 3 to 12 seconds, choose an aspect ratio, and lock the camera or let it push, track and orbit.

Seedance workflow model and generated output

Render picture and sound

Draft at 480p or 720p, re-render the winning seed at 1080p, and switch on Pro v1.5 when you want dialogue and ambience baked in.

What Seedance is good at

Camera moves that feel planned, cuts that keep the same subject and light, and a tier ladder that lets you sketch cheaply before you commit to a final render.

First-to-last frame transitions

Pin a start image and an end image and let the model bridge them with plausible motion and camera travel, for reveals, morphs and time shifts. Works with a single start image; the clip runs 5 seconds.

Dialogue and sound baked in

Pro v1.5 generates picture and sound together: quoted lines come out lip-synced, with ambience and effects named in your prompt. The 1.0 tiers are silent, so pick this tier when the sound is part of the shot.

Intentional camera language

Pushes, tracking shots and orbits read as deliberate and physically plausible, and faces stay steady through expressions. Switch on Fixed Camera to lock the frame and put all the action inside it.

Draft fast, finish in Pro

Pro Fast is the default and the cheapest way in, with near-Pro quality for iterating concepts. Re-render the best seed on Pro for 1080p hero clips, or use Lite for cheap tests and four-image reference scenes.

What people build with Seedance

Directors, brand teams, short-form creators, musicians and documentary editors reach for it when a still or a paragraph needs to become a directed clip of 3 to 12 seconds.

Filmmakers building animatics

01

Write two to four shot beats and get cut-like coverage with consistent wardrobe and light. Test pacing and camera moves before anyone picks up a camera.

Brand teams drafting commercials

02

Animate a hero keyframe into a polished, slightly commercial clip with a clear camera move. Iterate on Pro Fast, then finish the approved take on Pro at 1080p.

Short-form vertical creators

03

Shoot 9:16 moments with stylized looks like felt texture, illustration or cyberpunk, and keep each clip as short as its beats require.

Musicians animating cover art

04

Turn a record sleeve or poster still into a moving visual, pinning the final frame to land on the artwork you actually shipped.

Documentary B-roll editors

05

Generate establishing shots and texture inserts with natural film grain and soft haze, then cut them into reportage and archival-style edits.

Seedance questions, answered

Pro Fast is the quicker, cheaper default; Pro is the highest-fidelity 1.0 tier. Pro Fast gives near-Pro quality with a reported slight loss of fine detail, which makes it the best value for iterating. Pro renders up to 1080p with the best detail but is the more expensive and slower of the two. Neither generates audio. Draft on Pro Fast, then finish on Pro.

Use Pro v1.5, the only tier that generates audio with the picture. It produces lip-synced speech, ambience and effects when you put dialogue in quotes and name the sounds in your prompt. It is newer, so there are fewer community recipes. The 1.0 tiers are silent.

Pick Lite for cheap tests and for combining up to four reference images into one scene. It has less fine detail and weaker prompt nuance than Pro, and no audio, so avoid it when you need crisp 1080p. Reference scenes on Lite ignore any end image.

Clips run from 3 to 12 seconds. If you supply a single start image, the duration is fixed at 5 seconds. Seedance is not suited to continuous scenes beyond 12 seconds, so build longer sequences from several clips. Keep it to roughly 2 to 4 shots per clip.

It accepts a text prompt plus optional images. One image becomes the first frame, and its aspect ratio is followed instead of the setting. Two to four images work as references whose features are combined. An end image pins the last frame, but only works with a single start image.

Seedance comes from ByteDance's Seed team. The metadata lists the first release as 11 June 2025 and the latest, Seedance 1.5 Pro, as 16 December 2025. Dates for Pro Fast are approximate.
